Our trek to the nearby Filipino Store a month ago gave me the chance to hoard these:
Growing up, I favored Curly Tops over Choc-nut along with Snickers and M&M’s. As Snickers and M&M’s were not readily available locally, my Dad would trek to the nearest PX store to buy loads of them at one time so we won’t bug him. That was 5 kids begging him to go so he always obliged.
I’m still a Curly Tops girl. Now, with a good amount of supply in my pantry, I find myself munching on them most of the time. To make it worse, my husband has followed suit. He now has his own inventory at work.
Nowadays, you get to hear a lot of stories about people going into bankruptcy. Many of them have no other recourse, and they probably think that even one of those reliable credit repair services won’t be a good enough relief from the deep hole that they’re into.
It’s a sad situation, but it is inevitable. With thousands of pink slips handed over to many employees, and tons of companies folding up throughout the course of the past year, this scenario became a normal occurrence.
Are we ever going to come out of this recession? Many economists predict that we will eventually bounce back. In fact, some of them are very optimistic that they are now saying that they see signs of the economy bouncing back. I think it is too premature. As of late, it’s mind boggling to even hear of hospitals closing due to lack of budget. With that alone, we’ll see tons of health care workers displaced from their posts which means these workers will become part of the statistic.
Personally, I have yet to see the economy bounce back. Although, like most of you, I’m hoping that better days will come sooner than later.
This is a continuation of my food diary for the week when we were on food delivery holiday. Thursday of that week, we had cravings for Italian cuisine once again. This is take two for Italian food for that week. We really didn’t mind, as we know that we can never go wrong with anything Italian.
Just take a look at what we had:
cold antipasto
linguini with clams
sauteed spinach
By now, you must already be thinking that we can really eat. I have to admit that although I was not born a voracious eater, somehow I developed my fondness for food through the almost ten years of living with a voracious man. I still wonder up to these days why we are not in need of treatments for hemorrhoids. You know, when you eat a lot, you move a lot (lol). I guess, we are just lucky. Am I making sense?
Going back to our Italian fare; sure, we capped our dinner with his and hers mini bundt cakes.
I’m vain, and I’m not even trying to hide it. My interest with skin care and make up dates back when I was in my early teens. I was enabled by my Mom who fueled my passion for make up and skin care. Of course, she had to give me the money to buy my essentials to fill my vanity kit then. You can just imagine how my bathroom vanity looked like when I already started to earn and had the dough to burn.
I always believed that it’s never too early to learn and properly take care of my skin which also goes to say that it’s never too early to use anti wrinkle cream. I can’t say that I’m blessed with a flawless facial skin because who does anyway? Those that do, I’m almost one hundred percent sure that they take care of their skin and put a lot of work into maintaining it that way.
I religiously get facial treatments, and see my Dermatologist. In fact, I’m scheduled for a peel on the third week of this month. Yes, after I’m done with my sclerotherapy sessions, a peel is on my agenda. Now, you may want to know who is enabling me now? That is a pretty easy question to answer. Of course that would be my husband who pampers and spoils me to bits. You don’t know just yet what he did this weekend. For now, all I can say is I’m truly a happy camper.
The week went by so fast. With all the ‘excitement’ in our household the past few weeks, March came and gone and we’re now well into April and I didn’t feel the days have been passing by. Before I know it, it’s time to renew and take one good look at our home insurance quote and work towards getting a more affordable policy. That is, if we still need it for here, as there is a high chance that it may not be needed. With great developments shaping up, I’m optimistic that this task will not be necessary.
Wall Street was closed on Good Friday, as always. I tend to make fun of my husband when Good Friday comes around, and he is home because he does not observe Lent, yet he did not even take off last Passover which is a major Jewish Holiday. I can’t really question his decision because he was off for a week to take care of some important matters and he must have been too anxious to go back to work and get things in order. He’s gotten his groove back, and he was a lot better (stress-wise) this weekend.
We both have busy weeks ahead but I’m not complaining. It’s a good kind of busy, so I should be able to handle it better.
I finally got my wish after a few days of waiting. Knowing how I have really been craving for traditional American fare, my husband and I drove all the way to a diner for brunch last Wednesday. Although the weather was not really that great, as the sun was peeking in and out, we were surprised to see quite a crowd at the diner. We had to wait to be seated and when we were seated finally, we had to wait for another 15 minutes for our orders to be taken. Needless to say, we had ample time to have a leisurely talk about future plans, and of course current events which included the latest health care reform as well as the Philanthropist – Richard Willich. In no time, I was the happiest girl on the planet, because I was already feasting on my much wished for food.
Care to join?
The sumptuous brunch hit the spot. This diner at the Marine Park area in Brooklyn is one great place. You should drop by if you happen to be in the area.
As you see, I’m attempting to document our week-long food delivery holiday. No, I have not decided to make this site a food blog. I’m doing this so that I can go back and review our unhealthy and healthy choices (if there is one lol) of food in one week.
My husband and I enjoyed every bite. We just cruised along giving in to our food cravings that we have missed in the almost three months of eating the more healthy foods through food delivery. Yes, they may not be that healthy, and that is why we have been joking about increasing his and hers life insurance face value (haha… do you think we’re crazy?).
I guess, I had to wait one more day for my all American fare. By the way, what I’ve been documenting here so far, were dinners. Don’t even ask about what was for brunch, as I’m pretty sure you would frown at us.
hibachi fried brown rice loaded with shrimp
green river roll
flour-less chocolate cake with raspberry cream sauce
Our hectic schedule last Monday made me want to indulge in an all American greasy fare. But because I couldn’t hardly wait to hit the pillows, instead of opting for an all American food, we dropped by our favorite Italian resto (the place is closer to home) and got three dishes to go. Yes, it would have been more pleasant to sit down and enjoy the freshly cooked food in the restaurant but I wanted to dine at home where I can sit the way I want without the scrutiny of other people’s prying eyes.
In minutes, we were home, where a mound of mail from our mailbox greeted us including the newly renewed credit card that I’ve been waiting for. I already planned to call the bank this week, as I was already starting to think that it got lost in transit but I’m glad that I was spared from making one more unnecessary phone call.
