Food for two????? Well… If you’re with someone with a voracious appetite, the above spread of food for dinner is not much of a surprise. But it was probably a little too much for the waiter that served our table, as indicated by the impish smile as he was taking the order. Good thing, it was at a Filipino restaurant, and as always, I can use the convenient excuse of missing Pinoy food.
Truth of the matter is that, my husband loves these dishes: adobong kangkong (water spinach), chicken tinola(chicken soup), pancit bihon (thin rice noodles), pork barbecue, chicken adobo, sinigang na bangus (milkfish in sour broth) that whenever we dine at a Pinoy resto, he can’t restrain himself from ordering a tad too much or should I say, whenever we dine out anywhere.
No, he didn’t have a clean plate. As usual, we had some leftover, but it was not sizable enough to even consider having them wrapped and brought home. Do you believe me now if I think that down the road, my husband will be a good candidate for an effective slimming pill? The amount of food he ordered was really good for four people with average appetite. Oh and yes, this dinner was capped with halo-halo (see previous post).
Do I still need to spell it out that he indeed adores Pinoy dishes?

It was unusually mild today. If it’s only realistic for me to hope for this kind of weather everyday, I would, but it’s not possible. As if my body was programmed to respond only to warmer temps, I also surprised myself by waking up very early. I haven’t done this in years unless it was extremely necessary. If the human body can be upgraded like a computer, I would certainly ensure that my body is equipped with a system memory that makes me do this repetitively for the rest of my life. I’m a perennial late riser and I don’t like it, but I have allowed myself to sleep in late anyway, all these years.
At exactly 7:00 a.m. today, I was up and away. I must admit that it really feels great to have an early start. For once, I was done with my errands early and I had the rest of the day all to myself.
It’s the start of a new week, and I’m hoping to keep this pace.

It’s been cold right here in the Big Apple, and YES… this awesome treat is definitely out of place nowadays.

But, I kid you not if I tell you that I just had it a few days ago. Notwithstanding the cold, I didn’t want to pass the opportunity to indulge. It’s not often that we have the chance to take a trek and drive 40 miles each way to have this. I know that it’s just a matter of time before I finally succumb to fat burners (and for now, while thinking of it, I really don’t mind), with the kind of diet that I have been chowing on lately. Add to that, the sweet treats that I bake almost every Friday.
I almost forgot to snap a photo. I couldn’t wait to get my first taste hence, the unsightly appearance. The ube ice cream topping and slice of leche flan was almost gone when I suddenly remembered to press the shutter of my cam.
Wikipedia : Halo-halo (from Tagalog word halo, “mix”) is a popular Filipino dessert that is a mixture of shaved ice and milk to which are added various boiled sweet beans and fruits, and served cold in a tall glass or bowl. Other components may include jackfruit (langka), star apple, tapioca or sago, nata de coco, purple yam (ube) or sweet potato (kamote), sweetened corn kernels or pounded crushed young rice (pinipig), leche flan or custard, ice cream and gelatin. Other fruits, such as papayas, avocados, kiwifruit, bananas or cherries may also be added. Some preparations also include ice cream on top of the halo-halo. Generally, evaporated milk is used instead of fresh milk, due to the tropical climate of the Philippines.

When I’m not in the mood to experiment, I go back to ‘my fundamentals.’ That is my strategy so that I can keep the fire burning as far as baking is concerned. At this point, I don’t want my baking tools to go idle. I know for a fact that if I start to give in to my ‘not in the mood’ feeling, sooner than later I might end up abandoning my new hobby.
Thus, when that lazy feeling got me a few weeks ago, instead of resuming my search for plasma mounts, I whipped up one of the first few cake recipes (white cake filled and iced with whipped cream, topped with fresh kiwi and peach) that I tried early on in my baking journey.

I still have tons to learn. I’m only starting. I’m hoping that this early, I won’t lost that enthusiasm.

If there is anything that I’m not completely enamored with in my kitchen, I would say that it is the floor tiles, and I have no one else to blame but me. When we gutted and renovated our place, I had the chance to pick and choose the materials from the recommendation of both the architect and the interior designer.
As it is in every construction, the budget always end up higher before the completion of the project. Having that in mind, because everything else in my kitchen is exactly the way I wanted it to be from the kitchen cabinets, appliances, the black granite slab counter tops and my indulgence at that time – the tumbled marble backsplash with accents (except of course, that huge walk-in pantry that I’m still drooling for), I was willing to compromise with the flooring. As per original design, limestone would have been it, but I settled with ceramic tiles.
For now, I’m stuck with it until further notice (LOL).

Our weekends lately have been pretty unusual. Saturdays are mostly spent out (instead of idyllic weekends), as we still have no clue if we will really find a way to complete our big project. All I can say is that, as of now, even with a very high inventory, none of them ’speak’ to us, just yet.
Last Saturday, even with an early start, we found ourselves tied up in traffic. I know, we could have done a lot better and headed out a lot earlier but because there were several things I needed the man of the house to accomplish at home, we wound up leaving the house later than we originally planned. Waiting for another Saturday to complete his tasks was not an option, because he already postponed it several times.
Instead of driving straight to our destination, we segued and headed to a Ruby Tuesday. I didn’t even know how to describe the meal that we had, as it was way too late for lunch and early for dinner. I was hungry, alright but not hungry enough to pig out. I wound up getting Endless Fresh Garden Bar. Of course, I had my second helping (I can help myself as much as I like (a.k.a endless) but that was all I could muster). RT’s endless salad bar is what I order almost always when we go. I just love it, I feel like I’m eating guilt -free!

And what did my companion with a ravenous appetite ordered? He chowed on this burger, I think it’s the Triple Prime Bacon Cheddar Burger.

No matter what time of the day, I can count on him to eat . But in fairness, he was really kind of spent before heading out because he accomplished several chores and one of his tasks was to work around cable ties and tidy up some loose cables.
As luck would have it, we did hit another traffic jam again on our way home. Add to that the fact, that what we saw at our intended destinations were dismal (sigh). Our stop over at Ruby Tuesday proved to be the best for the day.

Over at the dinner table tonight, my husband mentioned that for the first time he had the chance to have a firsthand look at the CAD drawing for the company’s latest ad. The tech idiot as I am, I didn’t know how to respond and he sensed it, as I was not too interested about the topic.
Call it pride. Yes, I wanted to conceal my ignorance. I had to quickly change the topic. How bad could it have been if I just asked what he was talking about. But I surmised, why should I come out ignorant, when I know I can get my answer from the net! Foolish pride, I know.
Hence, right in between writing this post, I’m researching what CAD drawings are. At least now, I have an idea that they are computer aided designs. But I still need to read further to get a better understanding how they are applied.
I know, I didn’t fool him. He knew I totally had no clue about these kind of drawings. He didn’t want to embarrass me, I guess, so he just left it at that.

Two days ago, I wrote about that little zit that suddenly popped up. The little thing has gotten bigger and now I’m going crazy over it. Thus, earlier today, I went for a mad dash to the mall to get that pink drying lotion(Mario Badescu) as it turned out that the spare bottle that I’ve had years ago is no longer fresh. While there, I also went to check the price of the specific SD card that my husband needs. I’m opting to just order it online though, because the price is more reasonable.
I can’t wait to see this zit disappear. If it does not start to dry up on Monday, I might as well get a Cortisone injection from my Dermatologist. I can easily get an appointment anyway, because of the availability of multiple Dermatologists in that Derma Office. Requesting to see the main-man is not necessary, as my problem is just a very minor issue.
It’s amazing how I have been dilly-dallying on making an appointment to have the sun spots on my arms checked. Little did I know that I’ll be forced to really make an appointment because of one little pimple. Long wait at this doctor’s office is common, and as much as I can prevent it I really don’t want to go. Now, I found a more urgent reason to make that appointment NOW instead of next month.
