Cash As Online Payment Option

Prior to booking our trip to the French Riviera, I was hoping to stumble upon one of those travel online coupons but luck would not let me. With many online sites offering coupons nowadays, I assumed that travel coupons were also easily accessed.

What I found out anyways, is an alternative method of payment while shopping online through eBillme.com where shoppers can pay cash through online banking. This innovative method of payment is made possible via integrating online banking bill pay with eCommerce infrastructures that are already in place.

Seriously now, with rampant identity theft cases, this new way of paying while shopping online provides peace of mind. With online merchants offering this secure way of payment, I have no doubt that this newfound option to pay will catch on with online shoppers in due time.

I have no qualms giving this a try. One of these days,  when I’m set to shop online I will certainly keep this in mind and try to use it for the first time.

Sweet And Wise

You’re Sweet Because You’re Wise

In this crazy world, you are often the voice of reason. You don’t panic.

You stand back, assess the situation, and figure out the best course of action.

You’re a cool customer, and your friends appreciate your well reasoned advice.

You know that being stressed out only makes things worse, so you try to keep your head about you.

Parkview Diner (Brooklyn)

Right on Cropsey Avenue off the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, the newly opened Parkview Diner is now cooking up finger licking foods. It’s only been a few weeks since we heard of the opening, so off we went for brunch yesterday.

What can I say, the diner did not disappoint. From the previous diner that used to be housed in the same building, Parkview is a total departure from what it used to be. While the layout is still the same, the totally refurbished interior looks great. Parking is not an issue. Even with the limited parking available, we learned from the owner that customers can freely park at the nearby lot of a supermarket.  Just like any new establishments though, glitches do occur. Considering that we went there at what is considered peak hour, we were seated immediately but we waited for our order for twenty minutes.

But it was well worth the wait. The food is awesome and even if we only tried a couple of dishes in their mammoth menu, our taste buds agreed with the foods. This place is definitely a keeper. With its very accessible location, we can see ourselves going back for more.

his de luxe pancake with asparagus omelet, bacon, ham and sausage

the perfect complement!

Identical Blisters Begone!

Right when I know that I will be on my feet a lot in a few days,  I’m now nursing two identical blisters on each of my feet in exactly the same location. No, I didn’t wear a new pair of footwear. In  fact, it was an old pair of Mary Janes that did me in. It was perhaps due to the miles and miles of walking that I did. The mere fact that I have been wearing this footwear for a year, I didn’t expect to damage my big feet.

I have no one to blame but me. I over extended myself by walking up and down along Fifth Avenue from Madison Avenue. Shopping has its consequences, I tell you. I didn’t even feel any pain and didn’t notice the damage until I was in the shower at night.

Now, I badly want them to heal quick. Otherwise, I will have to be really choosy with what footwear to use in the next two weeks. Inflicting further damage will get  me grounded and that is simply impossible. I need to get going!

Izalco Restaurante (II)

This post is long overdue. In fact, it’s been that long since we dined at this restaurant that I can barely recall the name of the dishes. On the pics where I can’t identify the dish, please bear with me. With the authentic home style cooking at this El Salvadorean restaurant, taking the trek to Queens is well worth your time and of course, money. The foods are awesome and the outstanding service makes me want to go back over and over again. Okay, I have to come clean. I fell in love so much with their tamarind drink and I think that this is enough for me to want to take the trek again. I’m determined to discover their secret recipe so that I can re-create it at home using my Vita-mix.

Take a peek at what we had:

ensalada (salad)

chorizos con tortilla (pork sausages with corn tortilla)

chicarrones (fried pork chunks)

chimmol (chopped tomato salad)

pargo rojo frito (fried red snapper with creole sauce)

camarones al ajillo (shrimps in garlic sauce)

filete de pescado asado ( broiled fillet of sole)

and who would miss corn tortilla in a Latin American resto?

The drinks:

my favorite: tamarindo (tamarind drink)

cebada

horchata ( cinnamon rice milk)

Warmer Days Are Here

I’m sort of glad that we didn’t find ourselves on the road over the long weekend. In years past, when Memorial Day weekend came, we would navigate the congested parkways of New York and juggle a couple of destinations. This year we were more than happy to spend the weekend at home.

I’m certain that if we accepted some invites for the customary parties, it would have been that easy for me to get into binge eating again. It’s so hard to resist party foods. What I’m trying to avoid now is to waste my effort on trying to eat healthier. I do fall off the wagon once in a while but at least I try to limit the frequency. Never mind the fact that nowadays it is easy to get my hands on top rated diet pills because to me, it is not about dieting. If you have a pre-existing condition (hypertension) like me, dieting only comes second.

I believe that I’m healthier now more than ever. I exercise and do weight training. I try so hard to watch what I eat. All of which, I never did when I was younger. Exercise then to me was totally alien in my vocabulary. I admit that there are days when I drag myself to get to the gym and/or get on the fitness disc and lift weights, but I don’t stop pushing myself.  Now that warmer days are here, I should have no excuse not going down to our gym. The past months, I didn’t care to go because donning a jacket and what not over my workout outfit was not appealing to me.

My hibernation mood and mode is finally over.

Hobby 1, 2, 3

Reading is my number one past time. I can get lost for hours over a great, interesting book and not move one bit. Never mind the ring of the phone (thank God for voice mail!), I can always go back and return the call. But the sense of continuity while reading is hard for me to break.

Mindless online surfing ranks second. I say mindless, because it is that kind of surfing when I just keep clicking the mouse and not read anything at all. The images are enough to keep me entertained. However, when I stumble upon eczema pictures when I’m on one of those mindless surfing mode, I almost always stop on my track. I can imagine the agony of people suffering from uncontrolled eczema. I know, it is a chronic skin disorder and it is rather unsightly. And if it happens to be in an area of the body that is highly visible, it makes it even worse for the eczema sufferer. Self confidence is at stake and getting it under control is of paramount importance.

Do I have a third hobby? Paper scrapping! It’s something that I haven’t done in ages. I’m currently stuck! I don’t know where to start. I have tons of events to put in order but for now it’s taken a back seat.

Ah… If I can only add hours to a day. Obviously, not even being just a stay-at-home wife can guarantee that I can do every tasks/hobby that I want to do.

For Vanity's Sake

I’m done with my sclerotherapy series of treatment (for mild case of spider veins), and I’m so ecstatic.  For now, I finally bid adieu to my spider veins and say hello to mini skirts and shorts sans unsightly marks. Do I sound like it’s a temporary goodbye? Oh yes! I was told by my doctor that they can recur. In fact, I should really know for sure because I had the same procedure done many years ago when I was still living in the Philippines.

Hello summer! I’m ready to deal with the hot and humid temps here in the Big Apple, and an upcoming sojourn.

Done as I am with sclerotheraphy, I still have some treatments left to complete with my Dermatologist. In the past few weeks that I have been visiting the Dermatologist, I was a bit surprised to find out that people seeking adult acne treatment is not such an isolated case. I’ve met and exchanged pleasantries with them while at the waiting room. Nowadays, though, if you are vigilant, adult acne can be controlled. The proof? I saw visible improvements on the same patients that I met in the past few weeks.

If there is one doctor that I wouldn’t mind visiting over and over again, there’s no one else but my Dermatologist (the Derma that I go to for vanity’s sake (lol), because  I go to two Dermatologists, the other one is for medical reasons).  She has very efficient staff and I’m pleased with the minimal waiting time.  Plus, I get free coffee or tea and pastries or whatever I prefer every time – little perks, in exchange of premium fees because insurance does not pay.
