I’ve been numbed and depressed these past few days. It pains me to see my country go through the devastation caused by typhoon Haiyan, locally known as typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines. I’ve been spending hours and hours watching the coverage on TV.
I feel so helpless, and it saddens me to no end. I’m touched with the outpouring of love and support from the international community, as well as Filipinos globally. Today, my husband forwarded me this email which is an internal communication from the Wall Street company that he works for.
For days, my husband and I have been thinking which organization are we going to forward our donation to. It ‘s been a choice between Red Cross and World Vision (we have an ongoing advocacy with this organization for years). But with this internal communication, we deemed fit to forward our form of support to the American Red Cross.
No matter how little it may be, any form of support counts a lot. We’re only in the relief/recovery stage, and I foresee that rebuilding will take a very long time.
I enjoin one and all to please extend any kind of support to the Philippines. For those who have already done their part, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. May your generosity be rewarded a millionfold. God bless!
