It’s no secret that I have sweet tooth. Growing up in the Philippines in a family who loves anything sweet, decadent and sinful developed my taste buds for such. I can still vividly remember when Mom bought our supply of goodies in bulk from the PX store in Dau, Pampanga because the trek was rather long. It made more sense to buy in bulk than going back and forth often.
More than a year ago, I decided to curb my intake of sweets but I haven’t been that successful in totally cutting them out. I’ve learned however to take everything in moderation. Yes, my pantry is still loaded with the ‘bad’ and the ‘very bad’ goodies but it’s not like it used to be. Can you blame me from wanting to indulge? I don’t want to deprive myself because life is too short.
Four of the ‘very bad’ (yes, they are, just look at the ingredients) are Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter, Speculoos Cookies, Lotus’s Biscoff Spread and Biscoff Cookies.
Both brands (spreads and cookies) are a bit too sweet for my taste (what should one expect, it’s loaded with sugar). That is the reason why the turn over rate of my inventory at home is not that high. My husband can take it or leave it. Which brand taste better? I can’t even make a choice because to me they are both very sweet and they seem to taste almost the same. To make the long story short, aside from the the fact that they are not that healthy a choice for those who are watching what they eat, I consider them only as standby once in a blue moon indulgence and not my regular treats.
