Five years ago, my husband surprised me with the most decadent double dipped chocolate donuts that I have ever tasted (honest, they are really awesome!!!!). I got hooked! They were so addicting, at that time, I needed my ‘weekly fix’ if it was possible, but it wasn’t. Why? Because these sweet treats are sourced from a bakery in Long Island and we would have to drive 35 minutes each way to get them.
My husband was introduced to these donuts by a former colleague (who since moved to another firm two years ago). He would bring them to work with other baked goodies every once in a while. However, after my husband tasted the donuts, and asked him to buy a few for us for him to bring home, it became sort of a usual request from my husband by asking him to buy these donuts for us. It was kind of a big effort for his colleague to buy these for us because he would have to be at the bakery early to avail of these double dipped donuts as they normally run out of it early in the day. When my husband’s colleague moved to another firm two years ago, I was ‘divorced’ from these sweet treats.
Early this year however, I finally got reconnected albeit my tempered sweets consumption. I figured, it’s not bad to reward oneself with something you really, really love once in a while. So off we took the trek for the first time. I was like a girl in a candy store, only that there were no candies around. The bakery is located in a very nice neighborhood. The first visit was not complete without sitting in the cafe area with coffee and tea respectively.
We didn’t only go home with the double dipped chocolate donuts during that first visit, we also brought home this Cassada Layer Cake ( moist vanilla sponge cake filled with 1 layer of chocolate pudding, 1 layer of cannoli cream and iced with fresh whipped cream ) which was equally delicious.
We’ve become regular customers since and at this point we no longer need to head out early in the day (when we want to avail of these fast selling double dipped chocolate donuts ) because all we need to do now is call in our order and pick them up at our leisure later in the day.
Aside from Riesterer’s, we also have our other regular source of baked goodies : Sprinkles, Citarella, Laduree and locally : Cupcake Kings and of course, our newfound source of healthier baked goods which I will be writing about soon. For someone like yours truly who has a penchant for anything decadent, the more sources I have, the merrier.
