Do you miss wearing your lab coat? That’s the question that former college pals asked me when I recently saw them last May. Without much hesitation, I answered in the negative and what ensued was laughter and lots of follow-up questions. They just can’t fathom the fact that I have become so domesticated and have fitted in to my new role as a stay at home wife.
Those were pals from the Philippines whom I met up with when I was there for my mother’s wake and burial. A couple of months ago, I also had the chance to meet up with another college pal who is now a medical doctor based in Maryland. She was in New York for a couple of weeks for a Medical Symposium. An afternoon with her over lunch and afternoon tea elicited the same questions and then some. As a doctor however, my college pal continues to don her coats and scrubs, and she is actually aware of an online source – http://www.blueskyscrubs.com that offers quality medical uniforms.
I don’t mind being asked those questions all the time. I can’t blame them, as they know me so well. They are as happy to know that I have adjusted well and I’m happy as can be with my new role. From lab coats to power suits, then now to comfy get-ups twenty four seven. The corporate hat is totally off and I can’t be more content.
