I’m a fan of Citarella’s 7 grain bread. Actually, I’m not just a 7 grain bread fan, I should re-phrase my statement by saying, I’m a fan of New York City’s ultimate gourmet market : Citarella. I’m sure many New York residents share the same feeling.
I hoard the bread whenever I or my husband go there. I store them in the freezer and re-pack them based on my desired serving and thaw them the night before I plan to consume them. Thus, when I discovered that my inventory on my freezer was running low, it was time to send my husband to their Greenwich Village location and that was last Friday. He did not come home with just the breads though, he also came home with a box of Citarella’s to die for cupcakes.
Long before Crumbs, Sprinkles and only a few months ago – Cupcake Kings, we had our local Italian Bakeshop (Angelo’s – which closed down a couple of years ago), and Citarella in New York City as our regular source of cupcakes and other baked goods and gourmet foods. Yes, we have tried quite a few bakeshops here and there, but our loyalty remains with the aforementioned shops.
At $10.99 for a box of four of Citarella’s regular sized cupcakes, it is a good alternative to Sprinkles at $3.50. They are equally good and delicious. Of course, with Cupcake Kings’ proximity and the cheapest of them all at $2.50 per piece, I clearly have options to satisfy my sweet tooth at any day of the year.
