The first two years after my husband and I got married, we avoided estate planning like a plague. While we were advised by well meaning friends and family to sit down and take the time to have it in place, we were adamant about it.
Needless to say, everything fell on deaf ears. You can probably imagine how much more negative it was for us to even talk about funeral plans. Morbid as it is to most of us, these matters need to be dealt with without delay. That, I learned from the sudden passing of my Dad. With my parents’ estates in order, every single legal matter was dealt with seamlessly and without delay.
Being responsible adults entail careful planning and preparation. I must admit, as soon as our estate plan (that of course includes funeral plans) was in place, I felt good that I was not only taking care of myself but also the people and institutions that I care about the most.
