My husband and I sit down and talk regularly about our investments and the state of our finances. Periodically, we also revisit our legal documents, as our estate planning devices are in place. When we had all these on the works, we also took into consideration funeral costs.
Yes, when you’re in the process of getting the documents laid out, you can’t help but feel morbid. But we embraced it objectively and all we wanted was to get done with it for peace of mind and protection. The last thing that we want to happen should the inevitable comes, is for our loved ones to have to go through probate and worse, for them to worry about the things that could have been taken cared of by us.
I believe in short term planning, as much as I believe in planning for the long term. Being responsible means that you are responsible not only for yourself but also for the people and the chosen charities that you care about.
