Ping Pong Table And Sapin-sapin

What happens when you sit in traffic for 2 hours and you suddenly feel the urge to change the plan for the day? Take a detour!

A visit to several Long Island towns was in our itinerary yesterday, thus, the very early trek. With some roadworks on the parkway, the highway looked like a huge parking lot, there was no way I would have wanted to keep my lane. Instead of continuing with the original plan, the nearest exit suddenly was like a refuge for us. We wound up in a mall and got engrossed looking at the different game tables; my husband paying more attention to a specific ping pong table. He loves to play ping pong, that’s why.

Having been in the area already, I was not going to head back home without dropping by the Filipino store. With my husband in tow, it was a big surprise when he showed me his shopping finds. One of them was this:

This is called Sapin-sapin, which according from Wiki: it is a layered glutinous rice and coconut dessert in Filipino cuisine. It is made from rice flour, coconut milk, sugar, water, and coloring with coconut flakes sprinkled on top. Sapin-sapin means “layers” and the dessert is recognizable for its layers, each colored separately. It has been referred to as a blancmange of several colored layers, sweetened and flavored with coconut milk.

Having a shopping buddy in tow  means bigger dent on my wallet. Good thing, my wallet is loaded with my shopping buddy’s money, not mine (LOL). Oh, and he loves sapin-sapin so much that he is now telling me he should have bought two.
