An Afternoon In My Kitchen

While we had a chaotic afternoon here in New York yesterday, today was a definite opposite. It was quiet albeit the frigid temperature.

Friday is normally a leisurely day for me but I decided to take on some tasks that I have been postponing to tackle for the longest time. With the bone chilling temps I devoted my time in my kitchen and set out to run the self cleaning cycle on my oven. It sure got the kitchen really warm, thus, half an hour into the cycle, I turned off the heat in the kitchen.

I needed to rearrange the cabinets and pantry to make room for more stuff. I am officially outfitting my kitchen with baking equipments and tools. As I have written earlier in the year, I wanted to learn how to bake. Yes, I used to bake then, but it was not the kind of baking that a baker does. I have never baked and decorated a cake. Well, I used to say that too with cooking, as I never cooked at all before I was married. If I learned how to cook ( with all the burns and cuts I went through for the first 2 years of married life), I’m quite confident I will learn how to bake. I’m gaga over it, and that’s why the past few days a lot of my time has been devoted to reading up on baking basics.

I can’t wait to finally try my first recipe. But wait, not all of my baking tools and equipments are in yet. See how atwitter I am? That is precisely the reason why my husband is already giving me some precautions. He is aware about my objective of shedding off a few pounds, and me getting into baking can thwart my goal. To this I say, there are diet supplements out there if things get out of control.

For now, I will learn how to bake my cake… and eat it too.
