Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day, are you done planning your holiday menu? Is your home now garbed up and are you ready to welcome your guests?
Luckily or is it unluckily, I don’t have to worry about anything. Simply put, my husband and I have been “anti-TD” for the past few years LOL. No, we are not anti-TD, we are firm believers in the fact that it is a festive occasion where family and friends gather for that Thanksgiving meal. Recent history have seen us stressed out and finding ourselves on the road from early morning till the wee hours of the night to see family and friends. I have always wondered why we were doing it. Why just for one day???? Aren’t families supposed to be seeing each other and sharing a meal every so often? Of course, that is with the exception of families that are divided because of proximity. But if it’s a merely an hour drive away to see the family, why only make that effort for that one day every year? Does it make sense? I’m not saying this is true for every family, because I know that many families are close, and really have what they call close family ties in the “real sense of the word.”
The closest family(my own family) I have around is my sister and her family. I see her very often, not that we’re neighbors because we are not, but we find ways to see each other regularly. We talk, yes, on the phone almost everyday, talking about the mundane to serious matters. And yes, they are loooonnng conversations and we don’t just talk about the weather and current events.
Thus, this Thursday will be a relatively peaceful and stress-free day for me and my husband. We will go where our feet take us, we will head out to the place where we prefer and not dictated by norm where pretension and imposition rules. Thanksgiving Day will still be a day to be grateful no matter where we are. This coming Saturday, it will no longer be Thanksgiving Day, but we will see my sister and her family, because every time we see one another, it feels like Thanksgiving day. See, why should we only see one another and share a meal on that one day, when we can see each other any day of the year, more so if there are no islands separating us.
Wherever you may be tomorrow, you take care and have a safe Thanksgiving Day!
