Many of you may have noticed an entry in my other blog about my husband and I sponsoring a high school senior to go to DLSU - Manila this May. Well, that kid will be joining the Engineering program of that university. I got reminded about our commitment when I came across Kettering University, the #1 University in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering as per US News’s and World Report’s annual “America’s Best Colleges Guide for 2008″. I was thinking, Kettering may be a better option,if only he can come by to the US and study.
I became interested upon knowing this, so I navigated my way in to the website so I can learn more about the engineering co-op programs that they are offering. The program is one of a kind, as students are placed at companies while they are in their freshman year. They gain experience as they are rotated between school and their co-op job every quarter in alternate manner, with the objective of acquiring practical experience right from the start of their Kettering education. This is a very different approach, but it must be effective, as the students are given the chance to have hands-on experience working on actual projects.
It is good to note that Kettering University has been noted eight years in a row and ranked #1 and the best in the country for their Industrial Engineering program. That’s so impressive! Check out the online site, to see for yourself.
