I’m not referring to a foreign born resident in a country. I am referring to the “alien” in my kitchen.
Seven years ago, after we got married and I finally moved in to F’s place, he promised me that for our next place, I will do everything I wanted to do in terms of decorating and furnishing the place. That meant, whatever he had, stock lock and barrel when I moved in, they were gonna be there and the interiors were gonna be the same. I agreed to that, except for two things: I wanted a new refrigerator and a new bed. So, we did get both and we had the place re-painted, pulled up the wall to wall carpeting and had the wood floor re-finished.
Almost three years ago, we got a new place, the place we’re living in now. As promised, I had the biggest project ever in my life. We gutted the whole place and suddenly I had to deal with an Interior Designer and a Contractor, fabrics, building materials, etcetera. In the middle of all these, I was also planning a “wedding”(our renewal of vows held in Manila) remotely. Everything went well and done as I wanted, except that F didn’t “fully deliver ” his promise. I got stuck with my old refrigerator which now don’t “fit” into my kitchen. Not even the Designer was able to convince F, that we should get a stainless fridge. He stood his ground only because of his magnet collection. For now, the “alien” will have to stay while we’re here. I have no other place to keep the fridge. Unlike, if you live in a house, you have the basement, or like most people, they have the second fridge in the garage. For now, I will have to continue drooling over that Sub Zero fridge I really like. I wonder what kind of fridge will F get if this one breaks down. It’s already seven years old. Will he stick to getting the same kind, so his magnets will have a place because he’s aware magnets can’t cling unto stainless? In the meantime, I’ll just have to be happy alien is here. Care to see how alien look like?
