What will US$3,800.00 buy and how far will it go? Well, for me it will surely buy me a lot of toiletries from Kiehl’s, L’Occitane, Laura Mercier, Fresh and a few bottles of my favorite scents Imperial Millesime(Creed) and Jo Malone.
It’s been three years ago when we found ourselves attending an open house by invitation only. I came across an infomercial on TV about Direct Buy and I was enticed to make that phone call for an appointment. We were about to begin the top to bottom renovation of our place then. In that open house, we found out Direct Buy is a club, wherein members can purchase directly from manufacturers at big discounts . They made a very good and convincing presentation and all attendees only have one chance to decide to join or not. When you walked out the door that one time, you’ll never have the chance to secure the appointment again therefore, you lose out on joining the exclusive membership. To make the long story short, Frank wrote a check for the 3 year membership($3,800) and viola we became members! The idea of big savings from buying all those building materials, furnitures, appliances(name it, they sell it) was so good.
Guess what? We never purchased any building materials. Our place was done without making any purchase from Direct Buy. To date, the only item I’ve purchased thru them was a set Wusthof Knives I’ve given as a present. Why? Simply because, once you check and compare prices with retailers, the Direct Buy price ends up even more because they tuck in a lot of fees. When items from the retail store are on marked down(on sale) you end up paying more because of service charges and fees.
Yesterday, I got the third renewal notice. Our membership expired last June. They must be so desperate that they will still allow me to renew although, the membership expired months ago. I am not going to pay any penny. The renewal fee is $205.91. It’s enough that we have donated $3,800, and guess how much a new club member have to pay to be a part of the club? The last amount I heard was, $4,500.00.
Now, would you be willing to part with your money? Take it from me, don’t be another sucker. When it sounds too good to be true, it just really is too good to be true.
